Credits and Resources:
This model was folded by me without any external reference or resource. It is likely to be a traditional model, though.
If you are aware of any other source where this model or similar might be listed, please let me know so I can reference it under this heading.
Paper to be used: Square, any size; use large paper to practice with at first.
Folding level: Easy/Beginner
Steps: 11
Description: This easy box is fairly long and vaguely boat shaped with two high sides that are folded over with the short sides of the box ending in slanted points or as 90 degree corners, depending on your preference.
Using two-sided origami or other colored paper will form an attractive pattern, making this box even more eye-catching.
Both colors will show if duo paper is used.
Step 1
Place a square  down with its edges to the left and right, top and bottom.
Step 2
Valley fold over a small band (about an eighth of the size of the paper you are using) on the top and bottom edges of the square.
Crease well and leave folded.
Step 3
Turn the model over, like turning the page in a book.
                                                                Step 4
Fold the square in half from top to bottom and unfold.
Step 5
Then fold the top and bottom edges to m    eet at the horizontal center.
Crease and leave folded.
You will have the 2 bands along the center of the rectangle now.
Step 6
Lift up the band at the bottom, fold the left and right corners inwards and upwards to meet the first crease you encounter.
Flatten the band again so it covers part of the folded corners.
Step 7
Rotate the model around 180 degrees and repeat the previous step.
Step 8
Open the model by gently pulling the sides upright.
Step 9
Carefully shape the left and right corners by pulling them outward as far as possible without dislodging them.
Step 10 (Optional)
Fold under the 4 little corners on the short sides with a mountain fold for neatness.
Step 11
Lastly, when reinforcing the corners, you can decide if you want the ends slanted a lot so the box will have 2 pointy ends. Alternatively, you can pinch the corners into 90 degree angles, in which case your box will end up less like a boat, and more as a simple rectangle.
