Paper to be used: Square, any size.

Folding level: Easy/Beginner

Steps: 13

Description: This is an egg cup or holder that has an oval-shaped base with a flattened center part that is surrounded by 4 triangular "legs" that can serve as a stand.

It can also be used to hold any small objects like earrings, a ring, earphones, coins, etc.

Turned upside-down, and folded from large paper, this model makes a nice, sturdy crown for a children's project or party or make smaller versions for dolls and soft toy animals

Step 1

Place  a square piece of paper down on a hard, flat surface with its edges to the left and right, top and bottom.

Step 2

Fold the top edge down to meet the bottom edge to form a two-layered rectangle.

Step 3

Fold the paper in half again to make a four-layered square and then open it back out to a rectangle.

Step 4

Now fold the left and right edges to meet in the center. Crease and leave folded.

You will have a square, composed of two rectangles next to each other. Make sure that the closed, two-layered folded edge of these rectangles are at the top, furthest away from you, before proceeding.

Step 5

Fold the top edge down to meet the right edge of the square. Unfold.

Then, fold the top edge down to meet the left edge. Unfold again.

Result: You will have created two new diagonal crease lines across the square, which will help with the next steps.

Step 6

Now, you will perform a squash fold.

Work on the left rectangular flap first. Focus on its top corner.

Insert your finger into the flap and open it Gently. Start moving the opened paper towards the left while, at the same time, pressing down the flap into a triangle shape.  You will know you have folded correctly if you now have a triangle with its vertical center lying on the very edge of the model with the left side of the triangle extending out beyond the larger square.

There will also be a one-layered square on the left of the original square now.

  Step 7

Do the same squash fold on the top right corner so you have what looks like two houses, side by side.

Step 8

Flip your paper over from left to right, like turning the page of a book to reveal a large house with a smooth surface.

Step 9

Fold the sides of the model in towards the center. Press flat.

You will have two prominent triangles at the top left and right of the paper at this point.

Step 10

Next, fold the bottom left and right corners, the top layer only, upwards and in to form an upside-down triangle.

Crease well and leave folded.

Step 11

Now you will fold this upside-down triangle up and away from you along the horizontal crease that is already there.

Crease well and leave folded.

Step 12

Turn the paper over and repeat Step 10 and 11 on the other side.

Step 13

You will have a flat rectangle that resembles a crown with 3 triangles pointing upwards on each side.

Open the model out from the bottom to start forming the base of the egg cup.

Press the sides a little inwards to form a rounder shape and press down in the middle to form the cup. There will be a hollow, oval-shaped area surrounded by 4 triangular points or legs where you will be able to place an easter egg or whatever else you decide on.
